It is no doubt for recruiters and employers that attracting the best staff is a very important process in recruiting. It can be a very challenging and tedious process but, making sure you find the right staff can play a big role in your companies future and success. If you are an employee reading this article, be sure to realise it was probable your employers found it difficult in finding you and keeping you.
Another challenge that soon comes after finding the staff you would like to employee is keeping them. A lot of employees enter jobs they believe were misleading or was something they completely did not expect and end up leaving. This is always a disheartening process, not only are you loosing great staff, but you now have to begin that extensive recruitment process all over again.
Company Reputation
Your companies reputation can have a big impact on the type of candidates that want to work for you. If you want the best qualified individuals, you need to create and uphold a positive image where people would be proud to say they work for. It is beyond question that companies who constantly have negative connotations or who have multiple scandals find it the hardest when it comes to recruitment. It is easy to find individuals, but harder to find talent.
An adequate way of upholding your company reputation is through marketing and advertising. If candidates have seen outstanding reviews about your company or service, this can be a benefit in attracting new talent. Additionally, if your company is a start up or not as known compared to bigger companies, advertising is also a great way to get your foot in the door and attract the suitable talent you need in your workforce.
Culture Dynamics
The culture dynamic can also play a very important role when recruiting. If your company already has a particular culture in place, it is important that new staff can adapt or fit in well with this. This is why it is important to get to know candidates on a personal level and not just on their talent, to avoid workplace conflict or constant clashing.
In order to attract the right staff, think about the culture in your company, perhaps offering days off for birthdays, casual dress, early finish Fridays. Adding insights into everyday working life in the office on the company website or job application can have an impact on the types of candidates that want to apply for the job.
Career Progression
Depending on the type of company you are, a lot of candidates want somewhere they can stay and build their careers in. If a candidate can see clear career progression this is will play as a fundamental aspect in whether they choose to apply or accept the job offer. Employees want somewhere where they can gain experience, as well as be provided with training so they can perfect their craft.
As an employer consider whether you are doing enough for the welfare of your existing employees. Developing training schemes for your existing and new employees would help for the development of their progression, but also helps employees to feel their long-term development is looked after. Also including personal development plans for each employee would help to identify their strengths and weaknesses and areas they need to improve on.
Employee Benefits
In order to attract and retain the right staff many employers arrange ‘employee benefits’ or ‘perks’. Benefits such has healthcare insurance, gym membership, vouchers, paid holidays etc… can be seen as benefits. If a company provides many benefits for employees, this will help attract people to apply and also keep the current employees. This is because they feel they are being looked after and value more than just the paycheque.
For the purpose of knowing what benefits to provide, it may be useful to ask employees which perks they appreciate the most. Once you have consulted with your workforce, you can then decide which ones you would like to offer and maybe employees can decide the few they would like to select if the list is scattered.
